How to Frame a Diamond Art Painting

After you spend hours and hours applying your diamonds to the canvas and creating your work of art, it’s going to look fantastic! You may be so proud of your work of art that you want to display it for everyone to see.

A lot of people who do diamond painting will take their best works and frame them and then proudly display them in their home. That is a fabulous idea. Why not let everyone see what you’ve accomplished after all those hours of effort? Framing and hanging the art is the perfect way to show it off.

If you have never tried to do this before, you might be wondering how to frame diamond art paintings. We’re going to tell you exactly how to do that so you can have some showstopping art in your home that will last for a long time, look professionally mounted, and won’t fall apart.

Preparing Your Painting for Framing

The biggest issue with how to frame a diamond art painting is that the diamonds might not be securely stuck to the canvas and may fall out, if you place the painting upright. That would be awful! Your painting might look great once you hang it, but after a while, some of the loose diamonds can start to fall out, making your work look spotty.

To make sure that doesn’t happen and all of your little diamonds stay snug in their spots, you should press down the entire painting before trying to hang it. Use a roller or large flat object of some kind. Be sure to press the entire length and width of the painting so that all the diamonds get stuck on equally.

There is no need to use any kind of additional adhesive on the diamonds. The adhesive on the canvas should be sufficient to keep them secure.

Conventional Framing

You have a few different options when it comes to how to frame diamond painting art you have done. The most secure method and the one that we think looks the nicest is to frame your diamond dot art in a traditional frame. You will want to pick out one that’s the right size for your painting, so be sure to measure your art before picking out a frame.

It’s also a good idea to get some glass to put in the frame over the painting. Museum quality glass might cost an arm and a leg, but if you need to know how to frame a diamond art that’s secure, then this is the way to go. It will keep your art in great shape, prevent dust from getting in there and keep your diamonds from falling out.

Think about where you want to hang the frame as well. Try to choose a spot where you can safely pound nails into the wall. Sheetrock isn’t a good option, and metal and concrete will be hard to work with. Wood is ideal for this kind of project. You may need to buy fasteners or nails to hang the painting.

Foamboard Frame

You don’t have to place the painting inside of a conventional frame to hang and display it. One of our favorite options for how to frame your painting is to use foamboard as a backer. The advantage with this method is that it is so light and simple to hang. There is no need to use nails if you’d rather not.

To give the painting a “frame” on the board, just choose a board that is larger than the painting. Place your painting in the center of the board, and you can measure that off with a ruler to make sure it is precisely in the center.

Then, apply some glue or other adhesive to the back of the painting and stick it to the board. You can use a roller to seal the two together nice and tightly.

How to frame a diamond art painting that sticks in exactly the right spot on your board? When applying the adhesive, be sure to mark where it should go so that you don’t stick the painting off center slightly in your efforts.

The foamboard (with the diamond painting attached) can be hung using Velcro sticky strips, adhesive, masking tape (for lighter paintings), or thumbtacks.

Hire a Professional

If all else fails and you just don’t feel comfortable doing the framing yourself, there are services that will frame it for you. It’s going to cost more, as you might expect, but you might be happier with the professional look and the perfect fit you get when they are finished.

Look in your area for companies that know how to frame diamond paintings. Try art shops, frame sellers, print and banner shops and interior decoration services.

Diamond Painting Framing Tips

• If your frame is too small for your diamond painting, you can cut a few rows of diamonds off the painting to make it fit. It’s often easier to do that than to buy a whole new frame, and most of your picture will still be intact.
• If the painting slides around in the frame, you can nail them together. Use finishing nails so they aren’t obvious. These are really small and will be practically invisible when you are finished hanging your painting! Another method you can use is to glue the painting inside the frame so it doesn’t shift out of place.
• How to frame your art in a way that looks straight? Use a level to make sure your painting hangs squarely on the wall and isn’t tilted at all. You can mark with a pencil on the wall to identify where the frame should rest, if you want to be extra precise.
