Diamond Painting Art Explained

Diamond art is best described as a new type of paint-by-number activity. When you buy a diamond art kit, you get a canvas with numbers printed on it. This tells you where to put the diamonds. The diamonds are stored in their own bags and come sorted by color.

The kit comes with a pen and some adhesive. You use the pen to grab some adhesive and then a diamond. Then you’ll place the diamond onto the canvas to create your art. The resulting work is beautiful, shiny and vibrant. If you’re wondering how to diamond art, that’s pretty much all there is to it.

Diamond art is often very colorful and expressive and will stir your creative spirit. This is the kind of activity you can do with friends or by yourself, just like a puzzle. You can get lost in painting for hours, trying to create something truly beautiful and not realizing how long it is taking you to place each circle or square diamond. It’s relaxing and a great way to unwind after a busy day or a calming way to start your day.

Picking the Right Canvas

One question we receive often from inexperienced diamond painters is: “What is the recommended painting art size?” The answer is that it will differ for each person.

If you want a big canvas to display when you are done- something that will look incredible on your wall- then a large painting would be the way to go. Larger paintings also have more definitions and detail, which are especially important for displaying.

Large paintings can be intimating, though. You might not want to finish it after you spent a few hours on one and see how much is left to do. Any painting larger than 60x60cm is probably too much for a beginner painter to handle. Typically, beginners should start with small paintings and move up from there as they grow more comfortable with the activity.

Choosing the painting you are going to do is one of the most enjoyable parts of the entire hobby. You can choose from unicorns, castles, landscapes, cute animals, mighty heroes, religious illustrations and so much more. You can build a collection of exciting, vibrant art by choosing a selection of diamond painting art.

The Painting Process

Let’s go step by step through the process of painting to make sure you know what’s involved and to help you if you are struggling at all with your painting.

You begin by choosing a painting, of course. Once it arrives, it will include everything you need to get started- canvas, drill pen, wax, diamond colors, and a tray. You don’t have to buy any additional materials.

The canvas is sticky, so it’s easy to place the diamonds onto it. You just need to peel off the protective layer on the canvas before you get started. Be sure to lay it someplace flat that won’t be bumped too easily.

You will then want to take out some of the diamonds and place them into the provided tray. This makes them easier to access so that you can paint with some speed.

Next, you can take the drill pen and dip it in some wax. You only need a small amount to make this work. From there, touch the pen to one of the diamonds. The wax will help you to pick up the diamond, and you can then transfer the diamond over to the canvas, placing it in one of the marked spots. The canvas has printed numbers on it that tell you exactly where to put each diamond to make the completed picture.

The diamond should stick on the canvas in its place, but you may need to adjust it slightly if you made a small mistake. You can do this with tweezers, with the pen or by hand.

Then, you just repeat the process for each of the remaining diamonds until the picture is complete. It’s so easy, and you will have a blast doing it.
